Day 1 – Arrival in Ulgii and the Oigor River Valley

Upon arrival in Ulgii, the capital of Bayan-Ulgii aimag, you will be warmly welcomed by a local tour team including a driver, cook and English-speaking guide. Ulgii is the birthplace of the Kazakh people who settled in western Mongolia in the 19th century, and their culture is still evident today.

After a short drive, we will head to the indigenous Oigor River Valley. Here you will experience a true nomadic lifestyle and meet local families.

🌟 Day 2 – Horse Trek to Base Camp

After breakfast, we begin our horse trekking adventure toward the base camp. All your luggage will be transported by camels, while you are guided by experienced local horsemen and your English-speaking tour guide.

Along the way, you will pass through alpine meadows, watch streams flowing from snow-capped peaks, and have opportunities to observe wildlife. Before riding, the guides will introduce you to your horse, explaining its temperament and care. Each horse has a unique character, much like people, making this an immersive and personal experience.

🌟 Day 3 – Trek to White River Valley

Today, we continue trekking along a new trail toward White River Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the region. The river is milky white from glacial sediments and mineral dust, creating a striking landscape.

We will arrive at the southern entrance of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, pitching our tents in a scenic camping area. Optional short hikes, such as to Green Lake, are available for those wishing to explore further.

🌟 Day 4 – Horse Trek to Black Valley

The Black Valley is home to nomadic Tuvan people, preserving their language and shamanistic traditions. Today you can visit a nomadic family, see their daily life, and shop for traditional handmade wool souvenirs.

🌟 Day 5 – Bear Valley via Takhilt Pass

Today we ride over Takhilt Pass, one of the highest and steepest passes in the region. During steep sections, riders may need to dismount and lead their horses for safety. The trail descends into the pristine Bear Valley, home to bears, red deer, foxes, and wolves. Summer visitors may not see many animals close by, but the stunning scenery of untouched nature is breathtaking.

🌟 Day 6 – Khoton Lake

We ride for 3–4 hours, meeting our support vehicle at the end of the valley. Farewell to the camels and horses, then drive for approximately 2 hours to Khoton Lake. Enjoy swimming, short hikes, or explore ancient Bronze Age petroglyphs at Biluu Hill.

🌟 Day 7 – Waterfall Valley (Baga Turgen)

Horseback ride through Waterfall Valley, nicknamed “Mongolian Switzerland” for its spectacular alpine scenery, cascading waterfalls, and lush valley floors. Perfect for photography, hiking, and enjoying serene mountain landscapes.

🌟 Day 8 – Drive back to Ölgii & Eagle Hunter Visit

After breakfast, drive back to Ölgii. On the way, visit a nomadic eagle hunter’s family, learning about the centuries-old Kazakh tradition of eagle hunting. Guests can hold a trained golden eagle and enjoy a traditional meal.

🌟 Day 9 – Leisure Day or Optional Activities

Flexible day for rest, fishing, hiking, or exploring nearby valleys. This day can also accommodate any delays from flights or weather changes.

🌟 Day 10 – Fly back to Ulaanbaatar

Transfer to Ölgii airport for your flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Farewell to Western Mongolia and its stunning landscapes.
